Etiquette
Etiquette at the markers
Protocols for human guests at the liminal stations. Read before you board the lift.
You will not, in your first year, be at a marker. You may, after that, be invited as an observer. If you are, the rules are simple, and they are not optional.
Posture
Stand. Do not lean against the observation pane. Do not place objects on the pane.
Speech
Do not address the Pelagine envoy directly unless invited. The translator speaks for the human side. Do not interrupt the translator. Do not laugh, even at things that are funny.
Hands
The three-fingered touch to the pane is the formal close of any exchange. It is performed by the senior human present. You will be told beforehand whether that is you. If it is you and you forget, the meeting is not invalid; you are.
Departure
Wait for the envoy to leave first. Do not turn your back on the pane until they are gone. This is courtesy, not superstition.
