research body
The Bathymetric Conservancy
The human research and survey body responsible for mapping, diving operations, and Pelagine liaison from the outer-shelf anchorages.

The Conservancy is the body that holds my contract and trains the three-fingered touch I perform without thinking at the marker pane. I include the entry here because the chapter is the chapter of accumulated relations, and the Conservancy is the institution my working life has accumulated the longest and least examined relation with.
The Conservancy is not a government and does not pretend to be. It is a chartered body — half scientific institute, half maritime works department — that holds the operational mandate for the survey from which this archive is drawn.
Mandate
- Bathymetric survey from the shelf to the hadal floor.
- Diving operations support: saturation, ADS, and submersible.
- Liaison with the Tyrian Court at Marker IX.
- Maintenance of the marker stations themselves.
Funding
Treaty-allocated. The narrator has views on the adequacy of this and they are not relevant to the entry.
Treaty-allocated funding, with the customary inadequacy. I have views and the entry does not.
